Fred Fishel is a native of North Carolina. He completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science degrees at N.C. State University in Agronomy. His Doctorate was earned in Weed Science from Mississippi State University. He has worked as a county extension agent in North Carolina and his last position prior to coming to the University of Florida in February, 2005 was coordinating the pesticide education program at the University of Missouri for the previous 12 years. The majority of his current appointment is extension with educational activities directed to the safe and proper use of pesticides. Much of his activity is in the development of written web-based guides that address pesticide issues and the development of study manuals and certification exams for licensing commercial and private applicators of pesticides in Florida.
Melissa transferred from the College of Engineering in 2018 to become the Administrative Assistant. She completed her Bachelor’s of Science at the University of Florida in Agriculture Operations Management. She brings to the office extensive administrative and fiscal experience to keep day to day office operations running smoothly. Melissa is also responsible for distributing CEU certificates for training completed on our website. In addition to her duties here, she is a Staff Sargent in the Florida Army National Guard & manager of Kaboom Ranch.
