- The new rules proposed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services regarding aldicarb (Temik®) application went into effect on November 8, 2006. The application season now runs from November 15 to April 30. There is no longer a 10-day delay between submission of a permit application and the earliest start date for the application - it can be made as soon as it is approved. By July 1 of 2007, the applications must be reported on a quarter-section basis. Also, drinking well casement must be certified and identified with a GPS location. Non-drinking well information other than number is not now required - but they must still be marked with a conspicuous notice stating “NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION.” For drinking water wells, the buffer can be reduced to 300 feet from 1,000 feet if certain information is provided for the well. The Agency also reserves the right to deny any applications. (FDACS email, 11/14/06).
- Based on a request by IR-4, tolerances for combined residues of the insecticide diflubenzuron (Dimilin®/Micromite®) and its metabolites 4-chlorophenylurea and 4-chloroaniline have been approved. Tolerances of importance to Florida include: brassica, leafy greens (subgroup 5B), turnip greens, peanut, peanut hay, peanut oil, wheat grain, wheat forage, wheat hay, wheat straw, aspirated grain fractions, and pummelo. (Federal Register, 11/29/06).
- In response to a Louisiana emergency exemption, EPA has issued a time-limited tolerance for the insecticide/miticide novaluron (Diamond®) on sugarcane. The tolerance expires on 12/31/09. (Federal Register, 10/20/06).
