Pesticide Registrations and Actions

Non-Agricultural

  • On June 9, the FDACS registered BASF Corporation’s metaflumizone fire ant bait (EPA Reg. No. 7969-EUP-9) for evaluation as a soil treatment insecticide for fire ant control in domestic outdoor (non-food) use sites such as lawns and golf courses.  (PREC Agenda, 7/6/06).
  • On June 12, the FDACS registered Valent U.S.A. Corporation’s bispyribac 80 SP (EPA Reg. No. 59639-EUP-13) for control of aquatic weeds in lakes, ponds, and canals with limited or no outflow.  (PREC Agenda, 7/6/06).
  • The EPA has notified the FDACS that it has granted a specific exemption under Section 18 of FIFRA for use of penoxsulam in sovereign waters to control fluridone-resistant hydrilla.  It may be obtained in SePRO’s GF-433 SC herbicide and users must follow the regulations found in the identical product Grasp® (EPA Reg. No. 62719-500).  The exemption expires on November 1, 2006 and up to 13,000 acres may be treated in Florida.  (FDACS letter of 6/22/06).
  • Based on a request from PQ Corporation, the EPA has issued an exemption from the requirement of tolerance for potassium silicate when used as a fungicide, insecticide, or miticide in or on all food commodities as long as the potassium silicate is not applied at rates exceeding 1% by weight in aqueous solution and when using good agricultural practices.  (Federal Register, 6/14/06).
