Pesticide Registrations and Actions

Agricultural

 

  • On March 10, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) issued the Special Local Needs registration SLN FL-060002 to Agriliance LLC for Arctic® insecticide (permethrin) use in conifer nurseries for control of regeneration weevils.  The EPA registration number for the product is 1381-187.  (FDACS letter of 3/10/06).
  • On March 21, the FDACS issued the Special Local Needs registration SLN FL-060003 to Syngenta Crop Protection for Gramoxone Inteon® herbicide (paraquat) use in peanut fields to burn down weeds prior to planting.  This SLN replaces the SLN FL-010001.  The EPA registration number for the product is 100-1217.  (FDACS letter of 3/21/06).
  • On March 21, the FDACS issued the Special Local Needs registration SLN FL-060004 to Syngenta Crop Protection for Gramoxone Inteon® herbicide (paraquat) use in cabbage (including Chinese tight head cabbage) for broadleaf weeds and grasses and for top kill and suppression of emerged perennial weeds.  This SLN replaces the SLN FL-010002.  The EPA registration number for the product is 100-1217.  (FDACS letter of 3/21/06).
  • On March 21, the FDACS issued the Special Local Needs registration SLN FL-060005 to Syngenta Crop Protection for Gramoxone Inteon® herbicide (paraquat) use in lettuce for broadleaf weeds and grasses and for top kill and suppression of emerged perennial weeds.  This SLN replaces the SLN FL-010004.  The EPA registration number for the product is 100-1217.  (FDACS letter of 3/21/06).
  • On March 21, the FDACS issued the Special Local Needs registration SLN FL-060006 to Syngenta Crop Protection for Gramoxone Inteon® herbicide (paraquat) use in melon for broadleaf weeds and grasses and for top kill and suppression of emerged perennial weeds.  This SLN replaces the SLN FL-010005.  The EPA registration number for the product is 100-1217.  (FDACS letter of 3/21/06).
  • On March 21, the FDACS issued the Special Local Needs registration SLN FL-060007 to Syngenta Crop Protection for Gramoxone Inteon® herbicide (paraquat) use in strawberry for broadleaf weeds and grasses and for top kill and suppression of emerged perennial weeds.  This SLN replaces the SLN FL-010003.  The EPA registration number for the product is 100-1217.  (FDACS letter of 3/21/06).
  • On March 14, the EPA notified the FDACS that it had granted a specific exemption under Section 18 of FIFRA for use of fenbuconazole (Enable®) on grapefruit to control greasy spot.  The registration number for the Dow AgroSciences product is 62719-416, and the exemption expires on 10/1/06.  (EPA letter of 3/14/06).

 

 

  • On March 13, the EPA notified the FDACS that it had granted a specific exemption under Section 18 of FIFRA for use of thiophanate (Topsin M®) on citrus to control post-bloom fruit drop.  The registration numbers for the permitted products are 4581-408, 73545-16, or 4581-377 and the exemption expires on 3/1/07.  (EPA letter of 3/14/06).
  • Based on a request by IR-4, tolerances are approved for use of the insecticide spinosad (Spintor®).  Tolerances of importance to Florida include banana, peanut hay, bulb vegetables except green onion (group 3), and green onion.  (Federal Register, 3/8/06).
  • Based on a request by Bayer CropScience, tolerances are approved for use of the fungicide trifloxystrobin (Flint®).  Tolerances of importance to Florida include sweet corn.  (Federal Register, 3/29/06).

 

 

  • Based on a request by ISK Biosciences Corporation, tolerances are approved for use of the insecticide flonicamid (Beleaf®).  Tolerances of importance to Florida include head and stem brassicas (subgroup 5A) and mustard greens.  (Federal Register, 3/29/06).
  • BHN Research has requested an experimental use permit (EUP) for the plant-incorporated protectant Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki, Cry1A(c) protein in tomato.  The permit would allow for 500 acres of planting in the states of CA, FL, GA, IL, MO, VA, and PR.  A docket has been opened for comments to this request.  (Federal Register, 3/8/06). 
  • Arysta LifeSciences recently reported that methyl iodide will not be registered until 2007.  They have applied for an experimental use permit to treat 800 acres over the eastern seaboard.  (The Grower Newsletter, 4/6/06). 
  • On February 23, the FDACS registered Apiguard® (thymol) for use in beehives for treatment of varroatosis due to Varroa mite.  The registration number for the Vita product is 79671-1.  (FDACS PREC Agenda, 4/6/06). 
  • The second round of azinphos (Guthion®) cancellations has been announced by EPA.  The uses for cotton, potato, peach/nectarine, and southern pine seed orchards will be phased out in September, 2006.  The sale of products labeled for these uses was permitted through the end of March, 2006, and the use of these stocks on these crops is permitted through the end of September, 2006.  (Federal Register, 3/29/06). 

Non-Agricultural


On March 19, the FDACS issued the Special Local Needs registration SLN FL-060001 to BASF Corporation for Clearcast® herbicide (imazamox) use in fresh water ponds, lakes, reservoirs, marshes, bayous, drainage ditches, canals, streams, rivers, and other slow moving or quiescent bodies of water for control of hydrilla.  The EPA registration number for the product is 241-379.  (FDACS letter of 3/19/06).

  •  The FDACS has authorized the distribution and experimental use of Valent’s herbicide flumioxazin for control of aquatic weeds in lakes, ponds, non-irrigation canals and other water bodies with limited or no outflow.  The permit has been assigned EPA EUP No. 59639-EUP-12.  (FDACS letter to Valent dated 3/8/06). 
  • The FDACS has extended the EUP for the use of 2,4-D butoxyethyl ester (FL05-EUP-01) for control of hygrophila in Able Canal, Lehigh Acres, FL.  The EUP now expires 12/31/06.   (FDACS PREC Agenda, 4/6/06).
