Pesticide Registrations and Actions

  • wpdoc4.gifThe FDACS registered the biological nematicide Paecilomyces lilacinus strain 251 (Melocon® WG) from Prophyta on November 4. The EPA registration number for this product is 72444-2. This fungus affects root-knot, burrowing, and cyst nematodes in a variety of crops, which includes citrus, vegetables, strawberry, ornamentals, and turf. (PREC Agenda, 12/1/05).
  • wpdoc5.gifThe FDACS has issued SLN registration FL-050008 to Third Party Registrations for use of Pursuit® herbicide (imazethapyr) to suppress weeds in lettuce and escarole/endive grown in high organic matter soils (organic matter content >40 percent) in Hendry, Highlands, and Palm Beach counties. This SLN will eventually replace SLN FL-960005 as the 70 percent dry granule formulation becomes discontinued and replaced with the 23 percent soluble concentrate. (FDACS letter of 11/18/05).
  • wpdoc6.gifA Section 2(ee) recommendation was accepted by FDACS for addition of the Asian citrus psyllid as an insect controlled by aldicarb (Temik®) on citrus (grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange). This insect vectors the bacterium that causes citrus greening. (FDACS letter of 10/12/05).

  • wpdoc7.gifThe EPA has completed its review on the risk assessment for the insecticide/miticide oxydemeton-methyl (ODM). The registrant, Gowan, had agreed in 1994 not to market ODM for use on citrus, field corn, popcorn, onion, pear, safflower, snap bean, sorghum, and turnip. An exception to this agreement was the Special Local Needs (SLN FL- 960006) registration in Florida for use on citrus. With the review complete, Gowan has voluntarily cancelled field corn, popcorn, pear, snap bean, and turnip. However, citrus, onion, safflower, and sorghum will be reinstated on the label. (U.S. EPA, November, 2005).
