Pesticide Registrations and Actions



Agricultural
 
  • wpdoc4.gifOn July 15, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) conditionally registered the insecticide dinotefuran (Venom® 20SG) for control of whiteflies, leafminers, thrips, and other insects in fruiting vegetables, cucurbits, head and stem brassica, grape, potato, and cotton. The EPA registration number for the Valent U.S.A. Corporation product is 33657-17- 59639. (FDACS PREC Agenda, 8/4/05).
  • wpdoc5.gifOn July 7, the FDACS issued a Section 18 crisis exemption for the use of Reglone® (diquat) desiccant (EPA Reg. No. 100-1061) for tree desiccation to control bacterial citrus canker in commercial citrus groves. This exemption applies to up to 5,000 acres of citrus which will be sprayed from July 8 through July 22, 2005. A special local need permit is expected after that time period. (FDACS letter of 7/7/05).
  • wpdoc6.gifOn July 21, the EPA issued a Section 18 specific exemption for the use of Topsin® M WSB (thiophanate-methyl) for control of fusarium hardlock on cotton. The exemption will expire on July 21, 2006. (FDACS letter of 8/4/05).
  • wpdoc7.gifOn July 13, the EPA published tolerances for the miticide spirodiclofen (Envidor®). This is another tetronic acid material which targets mites, psyllid nymphs, and scale crawlers and is “soft” on beneficial predatory mites and insects. Uses of importance to Florida include stone fruit, citrus and grape, and the compound also has associated meat and milk tolerances. (Federal Register, 7/13/05).
  • wpdoc8.gifOn July 27, the EPA published tolerances for the herbicide pinoxaden. Uses of importance to Florida include wheat, egg, and poultry. (Federal Register, 7/13/05).

  • wpdoc9.gifOn July 26, the FDACS issued the Special Local Needs registration SLN FL-050004 to United Phosphorus for Surflan® herbicide (oryzalin). The EPA registration number for the product is 70506-44. The registration is for aerial application to caladiums. (FDACS PREC Agenda, 8/4/05).
  • wpdoc10.gifOn July 22, the FDACS issued the Special Local Needs registration SLN FL-050005 to Florida Tropical Fish Farms Association for Karmex® herbicide (diuron). The EPA registration number for the product is 1812-362. This registration replaces that for Nautilus® (SLN FL-990002). The registration is for control of macroalgae in commercially operated, freshwater ponds that are used only for ornamental fish production. (FDACS PREC Agenda, 8/4/05).
