June 17, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer conditionally
registered the insecticide clothianidin (Arena® 50WDG) for turfgrass. This is a
new neonicotinoid with activity against a number of sucking insects. The EPA
registration number for the Arvesta Corporation product is 66330-40. (FDACS PREC

June 17, the FDACS conditionally registered the insecticide clothianidin (Arena®
0.5G) for control of a broad spectrum of insects in turfgrass. The EPA

16WSG) for use on tobacco for control of fleabeetles and aphids. The EPA

(Celero® 16WSG) for use on ornamentals for control of aphids, whiteflies, and
mealybugs. The EPA registration number for the Arvesta Corporation product is

(Clutch® 50WDG) for control of a broad spectrum of insects in apple and pear.

July 7, the FDACS registered the insecticide spiromesifen (Oberon® 2SC) for
control of whiteflies and mites in field crops, vegetable crops, fruiting
vegetables, leafy green vegetables, brassica leafy vegetables, and strawberry.
This is a new type of insecticide (spirocyclic phenyl- substituted tetronic
acid) which is active against these two dissimilar groups of pests, with the
juvenile stages more susceptible than adults. The EPA registration number for
the Bayer CropScience product is 264-719.

July 7, the FDACS authorized the experimental use permit FL05-EUP-01 for the use
of 2,4-D butoxyethyl ester to control the aquatic plant Indian hygrophila in two
ten-acre plots in Lehigh Acres. It is authorized through the end of the year.

July 7, the FDACS exempted from experimental use permit the use of triclopyr to
control limnophila in an 0.8-acre pond in Port St. Lucie, FL. (FDACS letter of
7/7/05).

June 1, the EPA announced a 60-day comment period on the request by three
mancozeb (Penncozeb®/Dithane®/Manzate®) registrants to cancel the foliar cotton
and pineapple seed piece treatment uses. (Federal Register,
6/1/05).

June 3, the EPA conditionally approved the nematicide MeloCon® (Paecilomyces
lilacinus strain 251) for use on vegetables, certain fruit, and tobacco. The
EPA registration number is 72444-2. (Federal Register, 6/3/05).

Erratum: The June issue of Chemically
Speaking stated that the SLN FL-040005 was for chlorpyrifos use on tomato or
pepper to control beet armyworm. This SLN only applies to peppers. This
insecticide is no longer available for use on
tomato.
