Pesticide Registrations and Actions



Agricultural
 
  • On April 8, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) issued the Special Local Needs registration SLN FL-050001 to Syngenta for Switch® fungicide (cyprodinil + fludioxonil). The registration is for a reduction in plant back restriction (from 12 months to 30 days) for plants not on the label. Plants on the label can be planted anytime after the last application.   • wpdoc5.gifOn April 7, the FDACS registered the bacterium Agrobacterium radiobacter strain K1026 (Nogall®) from Bio-Care Technology to control crown gall on non- food and non-bearing plants. The EPA registration number is 62388- 1. (FDACS PREC Agenda, 5/5/05).
  • wpdoc6.gifOn April 7, the FDACS registered the herbicide imazamox (Raptor®) from BASF Corporation to control weeds in alfalfa, chicory, edible legumes, and soybean. The EPA registration number is 241-379. (FDACS PREC Agenda, 5/5/05).
  • wpdoc7.gifThe EPA has approved a specific exemption for the use of fenbuconazole (Enable®) fungicide for management of greasy spot (Mycosphaerella citri) on grapefruit. The exemption runs from April 7 to October 1, 2005. (FDACS letter of 4/14/05).
  • wpdoc8.gifThe EPA has approved a specific exemption for the use of thiophanate-methyl (Topsin M®) fungicide for management of white mold (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) on fruiting vegetables (tomato, pepper, eggplant). The exemption runs from April 8, 2005 to April 7, 2006. (FDACS letter of 4/14/05).
  • wpdoc9.gifBased on a request by Nichino America Inc. and IR-4, tolerances are approved for the insecticide buprofezin (Courier®/Applaud®). Tolerances of importance to Florida include acerola, atemoya, avocado, biriba, black sapote, canistel, cherimoya, custard apple, feijoa, citrus fruit (group 10), guava, llama, jaboticaba, lettuce (head/leaf), mamey sapote, mango, papaya, passionfruit, peach, sapodilla, soursop, star apple, starfruit, sugar apple, wax jambu, and cucurbit vegetables (group 9). Tolerances were also approved for meats. (Federal Register, 4/8/05).
  • wpdoc10.gifBased on a request by Bayer CropScience, tolerances are approved for the insecticide spiromesifen. This is a spirocyclic phenyl-substituted tetronic acid that is effective against whiteflies and mites, with juvenile stages more severely affected. Tolerances of importance to Florida include cotton seed, strawberry, tomato paste, brassica head and stem (subgroup 5A), brassica leafy greens (subgroup 5B), leafy greens (subgroup 4A), cucurbit vegetable (group 9), fruiting vegetable (group 8), and tuberous and corm vegetable (subgroup 1C). Corn, alfalfa, barley, and wheat are also approved, as well as meat tolerances. (Federal Register, 4/27/05).
  • wpdoc11.gifBased on a request by Prophyta Biologischer Pflanzenschutz, the EPA has exempted from requirement of a tolerance the nematophagous fungi Paecilomyces lilacinus strain 251 in or on all food crops when applied or used in accordance with label directions. (Federal Register, 4/13/05).
  • wpdoc12.gifBased on a request by Nippon Soda, tolerances are approved for the insecticide acetamiprid (Assail®). Tolerances of importance to Florida include tuberous and corm vegetables. (Federal Register, 4/13/05).
  • wpdoc13.gifThe EPA has recently expanded the Cabrio® (pyraclostrobin) fungicide label. New crops include head and stem brassica and leafy brassica, leafy vegetables, and leaves of root and tuber vegetables. (The Grower, March 2005).

  • On April 7, the FDACS registered the insecticide chlorfenapyr (Phantom®) from BASF Corporation to control pests in food handling establishments. The EPA registration number is 241-397. (FDACS PREC Agenda, 5/5/05).
  • wpdoc14.gifThe Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) expanded the area of experimental use permit (EUP) No. 62719-EUP-57 from 304 aquatic acres to 347 aquatic acres. The permit is for the use of the herbicide penoxsulam in aquatic environments. (FDACS PREC Agenda, 5/5/05).
  • wpdoc15.gifOn April 8, the FDACS granted the EUP No. 241-EUP-145 to BASF Corporation for the use of Raptor® herbicide (imazamox) in lakes or ponds to control aquatic vegetation. The EUP covers 500 acres and is valid until December 31, 2006. (FDACS PREC Agenda, 5/5/05).
