On October 12, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer
Services (FDACS) issued the Experimental Use Permit (EUP) 432-EUP-
8 to Bayer Environmental Science to evaluate a fly bait (imidacloprid,
tricosene) on surfaces in diary, cattle, pig barns, poultry houses, and
dumpsters. (FDACS PREC Agenda, 11/4/04).

On October 21, the FDACS registered the fungicide Penbotec 400 SC®
(pyrimethanil) for control of postharvest diseases on citrus and pome fruit. The
EPA registration number for the Janssen Pharmaceutica Inc. product is 43813-
32. (FDACS PREC Agenda, 11/4/04).

On October 21, the FDACS registered the fungicide Scala SC® (pyrimethanil)
for control of diseases on tomato, potato, strawberry, and other labeled crops.
The EPA registration number for the Bayer CropScience product is 264-788.

On November 4, the FDACS conditionally registered the miticide Kanemite
15 SC® (acequinocyl) for control of mites on food crops (citrus, pome fruit,
strawberry, nuts). The EPA registration number for the Arvesta Corporation

On November 4, the FDACS conditionally registered the miticide/insecticide
Pylon® (chlorfenapyr) for control of mites, armyworms, thrips and other
insects on fruiting vegetables grown in commercial greenhouses. The EPA
registration number for the BASF Corporation product is 241-374. (FDACS

Actinovate SP® (Streptomyces lydicus WYEC 108), will be registered to control
diseases on turf grass, greenhouse plants, and potting media as of 1/1/05. The
EPA registration number for the Natural Industries, Inc. product is 73314-1.

The EPA has issued a quarantine exemption for the use of propiconazole
(Tilt®, Propimax®, Bumper®) and myclobutanil (Laredo®) on soybean to
manage the newly detected soybean rust disease (Phakopsora pachyrhizi).
This is effective until March 1, 2007. (FDACS letters of 11/19/04).

The EPA has approved registration of the pesticide product Red Scale Down, a
mating disruption pheromone for the California red scale in citrus. (Federal
Register, 10/13/04).

Based on a request by Bayer Crop Science, tolerances are approved for
the insecticide deltamethrin (Decis®). Tolerances of importance to
Florida include sweet corn, cucurbit vegetables, fruiting vegetables, root
vegetables, and tuberous and corm vegetables. (Federal Register,
10/27/04).

Based on a request by IR-4, tolerances are approved for the fungicide
cyprodinil (Vangard®). Tolerances of importance to Florida include snap
bean and leafy greens except spinach. (Federal Register, 10/20/04).

The EPA has received a request by manufacturers of ferbam to cancel their
registrations or delete certain uses. Sylorr and AMVAC are canceling all their
registrations, while Taminco, Inc. will be requesting deletion of almost all
uses except mango (by SLN FL-960004), citrus, and stonefruit. (Federal
Register, 11/12/04).

DuPont Professional Products entered the PCO and greens market in fall
with the release of Advion® fire ant bait. The material contains
indoxacarb, which is reported to be a fast-acting neurotoxin that is
spread within the colony once activated. The sites for Advion®
application include home lawns, golf courses, commercial and
recreational turf, parks, roadsides, and industrial/institutional sites.

Syngenta has released its first termite bait (Zyrox®) which contains lufenuron.
Lufenuron is an insect growth regulator that inhibits chitin synthesis. (PCT,
October 2004).

On October 19, the FDACS issued the Experimental Use Permit 62719-EUP-60
to Dow AgroSciences to evaluate a crack and crevice gel bait (noviflumuron)
for indoor and outdoor control of cockroaches. (FDACS letter of 10/19/04).

The EPA has canceled a number of national and special local needs (SLN) registrations due to
non-payment of registration fees. The following canceled SLN
registrations affect Florida: FL-800024 (atrazine in St.
Augustinegrass), FL-860003 (diphacinone around sugarcane and
sweet corn), FL-890003 (dibrom in rangeland and wet areas), FL-
950002 (kinoprene at The Land/EPCOT), FL-980004 (hydrogen
peroxide in ponds, lakes, and reservoirs), FL-000013 (malathion in
citrus for Caribbean fruit fly), and FL-020003 (Ecolyst® on
