Pesticide Registrations and Actions

On May 2, the FDACS registered the fungicide Acrobat 50 WP (dimethomorph) to control
diseases in Florida bulb vegetables, cucurbit vegetables, and lettuce.
The EPA registration number for the BASF product is 241-410.

On May 20, the FDACS issued the Special Local Needs [24(c)]
registration number FL-030007 to Syngenta Crop Protection to require
perimeter treatments of approved liquid termiticides when installing
Impasse® Termite System (fabric impregnated with 0.77% lambda-
cyhalothrin). The EPA registration number for the Impasse® product
is 100-1125. (FDACS letter of 5/20/03).

On May 20, the FDACS issued the Special Local Needs [24(c)]
registration number FL-030008 to Agrisolutions for use of Pounce®
insecticide (permethrin) to control regeneration weevils in eight Florida
conifer seedling nurseries. This is a me-too registration in addition to the
SLN FL-990001. Material can not be aerially applied. The EPA registration
number for product is 279-3014-1381. (FDACS letter of 5/20/03).

Based on work by IR-4, a tolerance has been established for residues of the insecticide
pyriproxyfen (Knack®) in or on atemoya, biriba, cherimoya, custard apple, ilama, soursop, and
sugar apple at 0.20 ppm; avocado, black sapote, canistel, mamey sapote, mango, papaya,
sapodilla and star apple at 1.0 ppm; okra at 0.02 ppm; fig at 0.30 ppm; and
dried fig at 1.0 ppm. The regulation became effective May 14, 2003.

Based on work by IR-4, a tolerance has been established for residues of the
insecticide methoxyfenozide (Intrepid®) in or on cucurbit vegetables
(Group 9) at 0.3 ppm; okra at 2.0 ppm, southern/blackeye pea at 4.0 ppm;
and turnip greens at 30 ppm. The regulation became effective May 30,
2003. (Federal Register, 5/30/03).

Based on work by IR-4, a tolerance has been established for residues of the
insecticide clothianidin (Poncho®)
in or on field/sweet/pop corn grain/stover/forage
(0.01/0.10/0.10 ppm). The regulation became effective May 30, 2003.

Nut Guard V/Fruit Guard V® insecticide (Indian meal moth granulosis virus) has been approved
for controlling the larvae of this moth on dried fruit, unshelled/shelled nuts,
and in cracks and crevices in processing, packing, and storage areas. The EPA
registration number is 73176-1. (Federal Register, 5/30/03).

Green Releaf® fungicide (Bacillus licheniformis and indole acetic acid) has
been approved for treatment of ornamental turf, lawns, golf courses,
ornamental plants, conifers, and tree seedlings in outdoor, greenhouse,
and nursery sites. The EPA registration number is 70127-2. (Federal
Register, 5/30/03).

GB34 Biological Fungicide (Bacillus pumilis GB34) has been approved
for seed treatment of soybean for root diseases caused by Rhizoctonia
spp. and Fusarium spp. The EPA registration number is 7501-192.

An Alabama man was arrested on May 15 and appeared in U.S. District
Court in Birmingham, AL, to face charges that he violated the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and
Rodenticide Act. The indictment alleges that the defendant, operating under the name of Sierra
Chemical, sold counterfeit, misbranded, adulterated and mislabeled pesticides to
numerous municipalities in Alabama and Georgia. The case was investigated by
the EPA's Criminal Investigation Division and the FBI. (EPA OPP Update,
