Pesticide Registrations and Actions

  • On January 24, the EPA published a rule that revokes all tolerances for residues of the herbicide oxadiazon. Tolerances are being revoked because the active ingredient is no longer registered for food uses. The revocations are effective April 24, 2003. Registrations remain in effect for turf and ornamentals. (EPA Pesticide Program Update, 1/27/03).
  • On January 14, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) sent a letter to Yoder Brothers, Inc. to inform them that the Department had accepted the Section 24(c) application for the use of Progibb® T&O (gibberelic acid) plant growth regulator (EPA Reg. # 73049-15) on chrysanthemum stock plants to elongate cuttings prior to harvest. The Special Local Needs (SLN) number is FL-030001. (FDACS letter of 1/14/03).
  • On January 14, FDACS sent a letter to Valent U.S.A. Corporation to inform them that the Department had accepted the Section 24(c) application for the use of Velocity® (bispyribac-sodium) herbicide (EPA Reg. # 59639-105) for control of annual bluegrass in bermudagrass fairways and tees overseeded with perennial ryegrass. The Special Local Needs (SLN) number is FL-030002. (FDACS letter of 1/14/03).

  • Based on work by IR-4, tolerances were received for residues of the herbicide mesotrione in or on pop corn grain/stover (0.01 ppm). (Federal Register, 1/3/03)

  • The EPA has extended the tolerances for bifenthrin in citrus dried pulp and oil for an additional two-year period. The tolerance will expire and is revoked on December 31, 2004. (Federal Register, 1/16/03).
  • The EPA has again issued a Section 18 specific exemption for the use of CheckMite+ Bee Hive Pest Control Strips (coumaphos impregnated in plastic strips) to control varroa mites and small hive beetles in beehives. The exemption will expire January 18, 2004. (FDACS letter of 1/22/03).
  • The EPA issued a notice of receipt of a request by registrants to voluntarily cancel two pesticide registrations that are currently active in FL. International Paint Inc. has requested cancellation of XL-48 (EPA Reg. # 67543-8) which contains tributyltin methacrylate. Hempel coatings (USA) has requested cancellation of Antifouling Combic 76990-51110 Red (EPA Reg. # 10250-53) which contains bis(tributyltin)oxide and tributyltin methacrylate.
